“Then God said, ‘Let us make humankind in our image, according to our likeness…So God created humankind in His image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.” Genesis 1:26-27
Portraits of Humanity are intentionally made to reflect God’s creation, and are completed prayerfully as one who reflects, out of respect for our Creator, who made every original work. Each portrait aims to capture the essence of the whole person.
The commission process is simple. First, you provide a photo, or if a high quality photo is not available, we coordinate a photo shoot. Then, I work up a charcoal drawing (non-detailed; graphite detail drawing available for additional fee), and you approve the direction of the work. Then, I lay down hard and soft pastels in the underpainting stage, and I show you the result. After that, I use buttery-soft pastels in multiple stages, and will seek your feedback in the final stage. Minor detail work is performed using soft and hard pastels and pastel pencils. NOTE: Portraits in the Sacred Art category may require additional permissions (and hence, a little more time) if use of a reference image is desired and it is not in the public domain.
