Artist Statement

Using what God gives and I acquire, I aim to portray the invisible and offer a fresh rendering of the visible world. Grace in the ordinary is brought to life, whether I capture a person’s expression in the adventure of a smile or a reflective, penetrating look, depict the visual noise and energy of a seascape, or reveal the Truth through sacred art.

Soft pastel allows me to apply the truth of to a surface, portray goodness, and spread beauty. With nuanced realism and a spirited dash of impressionism, I sweep the paper with chromatic flexibility and a painterly approach. Soft side-strokes and bold impasto marks are signature to my recent work, with flecks of a light chromium green, conveying vitality, showing up in many of my pieces.

Prayer is an integral part of my artistic process. Mindful of God's Presence and His eternal care for both the big picture and the essential details therein, I attempt to imitate that care. I find that I am confident (and without the angst of blank-canvas uncertainty) as I let Him, the Master Artist, work freely in me for the good of others.
