“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find help in our time of need” (Hebrews 4:16 RSVCE). This pastel rendition of the Divine Mercy with Jesus giving His Body in the Eucharist is an image with layers of meaning.
His eyes appear reflective - as if looking thoughtfully at the viewer. The background intentionally bone black, ultramarine blue, and flesh ochre pigments to symbolize God’s mercy reaching to heal the bruises each person has felt, and given, in our lives in the flesh. The depiction of the Eucharist melds with His hand, symbolizing the reality that the Consecrated Host truly is the Body of Christ, and is not a mere symbol. The depiction of the Eucharist and the monstrance surrounding has iridescent pigments to show the luminous connection between the mercy of God sending His Son to offer His Body and Blood on the Cross, and the Son giving us His Body and Blood to eat and drink at the Institution of the Eucharist, which Catholics contemplate in the fifth Luminous Mystery of the Rosary.
The original Divine Mercy image of Jesus was painted at the request of Jesus Himself, who appeared to a Polish nun, Saint Faustina and asked that people venerate (i.e., honor Him by contemplating the meaning of Him as the Divine Mercy, and praying to Him seeking mercy for self and others). It is important to remember that Christians, including Catholics, are not to treat a sacred image as the reality; rather, the image leads to one to ponder the Ultimate Reality: God.

Your original pastel painting will be shipped to you unframed, and securely protected for its journey to your home, with instructions for care and recommendations for framing. Hand-delivery is possible if you live in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. If you purchase a mat in the shop, it will be delivered to you with a standard or linen mat according to your selection.

CARING FOR YOUR PASTEL PAINTING
1. Unwrap very carefully
2. Do not touch the surface as this will smear the pastel.
3. Store flat until framed.
4. Frame behind glass. Be sure to select a framer who is familiar with handling soft pastel works. The painting must not touch the glass.
5. Museum glass is preferred, to avoid glare, but you may use any real glass. Avoid plexiglass so that static will not pull pastel particles away from the paper.
6. Do not spray the original with fixative, as this will alter the colors.
7. It is normal for some pastel dust to fall at times after it is hung or while it is being handled.
